Father’s Day Celebration: Popular Restaurants and Food Safety Checklist

Father’s Day is quite a popular celebration. Every year, it brings out millions of families to restaurants, and sometimes, brings out the inner-chef in us all.

In 2019 alone, according to Womply, a credit-card processor, the week prior to and including Father’s Day was number one in consumer spending in local restaurants.

Of course, this number was much lower the following year, 2020, due to the pandemic, restaurant closures, and social distancing; despite this, a big increase was seen in to-go orders, pre-packaged meals, and dine-in offers.

Now in 2021, we are expected to see a high surge in the restaurant industry for Father’s Day — however, the questions that arise are “where do we go” and “how do we know the food is safe?”

Luckily, we did the digging for you, so you can focus on celebrating your dad.

Stay home for Father’s Day

Most will say that it doesn’t matter where or how you celebrate, as long as you do. Some of the most memorable and special moments are made at home, so why not bring out the inner-chef heart in your family?

Gather some yummy ingredients that you have in your pantry and start cooking! Pancakes seem to always be a hit for dad’s.

If you aren’t a great cook, that’s okay. The majority of your local restaurants will also be providing excellent carry-out food and deals for Father’s Day including Applebees, Bahama Breeze, Carrara’s Chilis, Longhorns, and others.

Pick up your favorite meals and enjoy them in the comfort and safety of your home.

How to Protect Yourself While Eating Out on Father’s Day

Whether you decide to travel to a fun restaurant or choose ingredients from home, it is always important to ensure you or the restaurant of your choosing follows proper food safety guidelines.

If you cook at home, please do the following to protect your food:

  • Thoroughly cook all meats, seafood, and eggs.

  • Ensure you correctly store cooked foods in refrigeration or other after cooking; do not leave ingredients laying out.

  • Eat leftovers within 3 to 4 days; however, this is dependent on the type of meal you have. Meats will last a less amount of time than processed foods will or can.

If you eat out, please protect yourself by watching out for the following:

  • Check the inspection score of your chosen restaurant; it is best if the score is an ‘A’.

  • Take notice of the hygiene of all employees.

  • Pay attention to the cleanliness of the restaurant; even the front of the house can be a good indicator as to how the back of the house is kept.

  • Ensure your food is cooked thoroughly and properly, especially meats and seafood.

.

We hope you have a safe, fun, and happy Father’s Day celebration this year. With food safety at the top of your mind now, you can now enjoy your day stress-free.

Happy Father’s Day!
